WHO WE ARE
Mikaelia Benson is the Programmatic Assistant to the Vice President of Equity-Centered Capacity Building (ECCB). Passionate about advocacy and serving marginalized groups, Mikaelia has worked in the social service arena for seventeen years. She has been an Educator for neuro-divergent students in Jamaica where she created modified curricula to facilitate their learning, and a Family Preservation specialist and crisis worker in Birmingham, Alabama as a Social Worker.
Mikaelia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Talladega College where the civil rights history coupled with her lived black experience as a minority in the South, was an eye-opener to her lived black experience as a majority from Jamaica. It is through that lens, she moves through life to ensure that the perceived voiceless, know they have a voice. Mikaelia stays sane via her son, family, friends, spicy food, good music and the beach.
