A Justice & Joy Holiday Event
December 16, 2021 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
NBEC’s Justice and Joy Holiday Event focuses on celebrating, informing, and educating Black birthing families across the United States. We do this by engaging attendees through speakers and presentations, sharing resources, and conducting raffle giveaways. It is our effort to use this event to help advance our mission to optimize Black maternal, infant, sexual, and reproductive wellbeing. Birthed in 2020, as a result of the trauma that Black birthing folks and families endured, i.e. the pandemic, social unrest/police brutality, numerous viral Black maternal mortality incidents. NBEC, alongside partner organizations, created a space to pour into and provide information to pregnant and recently postpartum folks, up to 18 months, and families.
This year’s event will be in the same vein. We will have 5 speakers that touch on support (social support, providers, fathers), grief and loss, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) families, maternal mental health, and the beauty of Black birthing. Speakers include representatives from Birth In Color RVA, Fathers Matter Nola, Saul’s Light Foundation, Shades of Blue Project, and internationally acclaimed speaker Sunni Patterson. In addition to the amazing information and education, we will have multiple raffle prize giveaways. Sponsorships will help support the giveaway and/or the production of the event.
The event will take place virtually on December 16, 2021, from 4:30-6:30 pm CST. It is our goal to have an audience of 50-100 folks.
Thank you to our event sponsor, Ovia Health, and to the other sponsors that donated items for the raffle.
