Social Media Manager

Strategic Communications and Culture Shift

The role of NBEC’s Marketing and Communications team is to develop and execute communications strategies that bolster the message and mission of the organization and its founder as they strive to support and assist communities and organizations in achieving birth equity and improving family health for Black pregnant and birthing people.

We are seeking a Social Media Manager to join our team and oversee the management and growth of NBEC’s social properties on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will have experience strategizing, implementing, and optimizing social media content across multiple social networks. S/he/they has a strong social media voice, stellar work ethic, and is a personable, collaborative storyteller who will conceive creative brand campaigns, create appealing visuals, draft copy, and analyze campaign performances in order to drive audience engagement and increase awareness of NBEC’s brand globally.

This position will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and will work closely with the Communications staff, our team of consultants, as well as internal and external partners to build a social media presence that highlights the mission and work of NBEC, our leadership and Dr. Crear-Perry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create an engaging NBEC voice and tone across all of our social channels ensuring a consistent look and feel
  • Create content (e.g. written posts, video content, stories, graphics, edited images, etc.) that reflects NBEC’s voice, values and mission based on promotional needs, activities, special events, announcements, etc.
  • Draft, schedule, publish, and optimize daily content across multiple platforms (e.g. FB, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Tiktok, etc.) making sure posts are on brand, on message, aligned with strategy and approved
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive social media calendar that aligns with the overall marketing strategy
  • Collect, organize, and maintain digital content and creative assets so they are readily accessible when needed
  • Build a surplus of content; be proactive with future planning (6-8 weeks); schedule future posts in Meltwater
  • Edit video content using a storytelling format to share across digital platforms; oversee external editors’ efforts
  • Monitor, listen, and respond to users (as appropriate), creating opportunities to engage with NBEC’s audience
  • Engage in relevant social discussion about the organization, brand, and industry (reproductive justice) matters
  • Amplify partner content across social channels; strategize on how best to prioritize and balance said content
  • Identify and collaborate with influencers on giveaways, brand promotions and create buzz through partnerships
  • Identify and maintain relationships with content/marketing partners to develop partnership opportunities
  • Work closely with internal colleagues to ideate and execute social-focused initiatives and partnerships
  • Manage internal requests for social media support, prioritize requests based on overarching strategic goals
  • Create and implement highly-targeted and sophisticated Instagram and Facebook digital advertising campaigns to support marketing initiatives and increase brand awareness (A/B testing, optimizing bids, geo-targeting, etc.)
  • Develop and execute special promotions and campaigns (ex. Twitter Chats, Google+ Hangouts, LinkedIn conversations, FB Live, etc.), post across NBEC’s social channels and track their success 
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators and metrics; implement analytics and reporting methods to gauge success
  • Provide regular reports of social media insights and make strategic recommendations using analytics tools – lead bi-weekly conversation about upcoming social media content
  • Analyze and report campaign/content performance; use said data to uncover insights that help drive growth
  • Participate in special events and programs (take photos, capture videos, collect quotes, live tweet, etc.)
  • Stay abreast of social media trends and provide recommendations to the organization as warranted
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and social media prowess 
  • Comprehensive English written and language skills 
  • In-depth knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok and how each platform is best used
  • Familiar with digital media tools used for social content (ex. Hootsuite, Canva, Adobe Creative, Meltwater, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills 
  • Highly motivated self starter; excellent communicator w/a positive demeanor, able to multitask
  • Able to flourish with minimal supervision; proactive with good judgment, can work independently
  • Commitment to Black women, their bodies, babies, families and communities 
  • Reasonable availability to respond to requests outside normal business hours on occasion
  • This is a remote position. Candidates must have access to WiFi and be able to attend meetings virtually.
  • Must be available Monday – Friday (9a to 6p Eastern Time)
  • 2 – 4 years experience in Marketing, Communications or PR, specifically developing social initiatives/campaigns
  • Demonstrated success activating social media campaigns, specifically with results for engagement and target audience growth 
  • College degree preferred, but not required

Benefits & Compensation

Compensation 

$45,000 – $55,000/year + benefits
